The best-known authentication companies include PSA/DNA, Beckett and JSA; each issues a numbered certificate or sticker that can be looked up on the company's website. A certificate from an unknown issuer carries little weight. Compare the signature with known examples from the same period. For prints and artworks, check whether the edition is numbered and signed by the artist. Keep signed photographs out of direct sunlight, which fades ink quickly, and frame them behind UV-filtering glass.
